Alessandra Tomal is an associate professor in the Applied Physics Department at the Gleb Wataghin Physics Institute of the University of Campinas in Brazil.

In September 2023, she joined the AXTI lab as a guest researcher supported by FAPESP. She obtained her Ph.D. in Physics Applied to Medicine and Biology from the University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, where her research focused on and image quality in mammography. Her research mainly focuses on breast imaging, dosimetry, Monte Carlo simulation, diagnostic imaging, characterization of breast tissues and equivalent materials using X-ray techniques, semiconductor detectors, and application of neural networks in medical physics. Dr. Tomal is a member of the Administrative Counselor of Children's Hospital Boldrini Center in Brazil and the Research and Teaching Medical Physics Committee of the Brazilian Association of Medical Physics. She also serves as the co-coordinator of the Medical Physics committee of the Brazilian Physics Society.
